Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki riders double up for two wins in Calgary

Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki’s Paul Carpenter and Tucker Hibbert both rode to overall wins in round five of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals. Carpenter extended his points lead in the MX1 class championship series and Hibbert secured his first career overall win in the MX2 class.

After suffering a setback in the last round, Paul Carpenter returned to form this weekend with his third overall win of the season. Although the weekend started off slow in the Saturday practice sessions, Carpenter regained his composure on Sunday to add to his championship points lead. Jeff Gibson is also continuing to ride strong and earned a fifth overall for the day.

“I felt comfortable all weekend and had some really good practice times,” commented Gibson. “I am riding a lot better in these last few rounds and I’m feeling more comfortable. The team is working really hard and I appreciate the help that they are giving me.”

“Saturday practice didn’t start so well since I crashed hard and banged my knee up a little,” explained Carpenter about his weekend. “My practice times just weren’t there and then I suffered a poor start in the first moto. In the second moto I felt a lot more comfortable and came away with the win”

In the MX2 class, Hibbert had to work hard for his overall win after poor starts in both motos. In moto one, he charged through the field after a 22nd place start to pass for the lead on the final lap. The second moto started in similar fashion as he rode in 24th position after the first lap. This time he worked his way through the pack but a fall towards the end of the moto left him with a fifth at the finish line. However, his 1-5 moto finishes were enough to give him his first overall win of his career.

Carpenter now has a 69 point lead in the MX1 championship points standings and Gibson moved into fourth position, only eight points out of second place. Hibbert’s win moves him up to sixth place in the MX2 West championship points standings.

Riverside, CA (July 16, 2007) – Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki’s Jeff Gibson scored his first CRMC Motocross Nationals podium finish this weekend at round six in Nanaimo, BC. His third overall finish also moves the Ohio rider into third place in the current championship standings with three races remaining. Current championship points leader Paul Carpenter retains the overall championships points lead with a fifth overall.

“I got some good starts today and rode as hard as I could,” said Gibson after his podium finish. “However, the track was very tough so I knew I had to ride smart and stay on two wheels. In the end, it all worked out so I’m happy with the results.”

“I struggled with the track all day,” explained Carpenter. “Poor starts and crashes just added to my frustration for the weekend. In the end, I only lost a few points in the championship points so that is the main thing. Our goal is that championship right now and the entire team is working really hard to achieve that goal.”

The teams MX2 entry, Tucker Hibbert was on his way to another great finish until a large rock caused his clutch to malfunction as he was leading the second moto. He would eventually finish in twelfth overall.

The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team has a long break before resuming their championship chase at Riverglade MX Park in Moncton, New Brunswick, for round seven of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.
